These terms apply when you use Ideal City (the “site”), operated by Doubletrouble Apps. By using the site you agree to them. If you don’t, please don’t use it.

What the site is

Ideal City is a free research tool. It gathers published statistics from public government datasets, ranks each place, county, and state against others of the same kind, and lets you weight those factors according to what you care about. It is an aid to your own research — nothing more.

What the site is not

Nothing here is professional advice. In particular, our scores and figures are not real-estate, financial, legal, tax, relocation, safety, or medical advice, and they are not an appraisal or a valuation of any property. Do not rely on them for a decision that matters without confirming the underlying facts yourself.

About the data

Every figure comes from a third-party public dataset, each named on the methodology page and on each region page. We do not control those sources and cannot guarantee that any figure is accurate, current, or complete.

• Source data is collected on a lag. Census ACS figures are five-year rolling estimates, climate normals cover 1991–2020, and crime and school data are typically a year or more behind. A number shown here may not describe the area today.
• Statistics describe an area in aggregate. They tell you very little about a specific street, building, school, or household within it.
• Small areas often have wide margins of error, and some have no data at all for a given factor. Where a figure is missing we leave it out rather than guess.
• Scores and letter grades are our own editorial construction, computed as described in our methodology. They are one reasonable way to summarize the data, not an objective measure of how good a place is.

Using our content

The underlying public datasets carry their own licences, granted by the agencies that publish them; the EPI Family Budget Calculator data, for example, is CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. Our own contribution — the scoring method, written summaries, page design, and site name — belongs to us.

You may quote or cite figures and short excerpts for personal, journalistic, or academic use, with attribution and a link to the page you took them from. Please don’t scrape or bulk-copy the site to republish it as a competing dataset or product. If you want to use the data more broadly, get in touch — we’re usually happy to say yes.

Availability and changes

The site is provided as-is and as-available. We may change, add, or remove factors, scores, and pages as datasets are updated or replaced, and we may interrupt or discontinue the site at any time without notice.

Advertising and third-party links

The site is free and supported by advertising; see our privacy policy for how advertising cookies work and how to opt out. Ads and links to third-party sites are not endorsements, and we are not responsible for the content or practices of any site we link to.

Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Doubletrouble Apps is not liable for any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, this site or its data. Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain limitations, in which case the narrowest permitted limitation applies and nothing here affects rights you have that cannot be waived.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the site evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above.
